Warrnambool, Australia born singer-songwriter and folk-rock musician Ben Witham crafts lyrically compelling songs from the heart and head of years lived through the personal, the political and the fragility and impermanence of life, and brings a depth of sensitivity to the joys, trials and pathos that are part of being human. Stories in song of love, loss, the natural world, finding meaning, confronting injustices and more, all encased in memorable melodic lines. Witham commenced writing and performing in the early 1970s and has over forty years of performing in Australian festivals, folk clubs, cafes, restaurants and house concerts.
In 2005 Witham formed Ben Witham and The Betty Band in Melbourne and since relocating to Warrnambool, Victoria in 2017 has a new iteration of first-rate musicians in the band.
In his career Witham’s performances include a host of locations including Darebin Music Feast Melbourne; the Bougainvillea Festival (now the Darwin Festival); Maldon Folk Festival, Victoria; human and environmental rights concerts in Melbourne, Sydney and Warrnambool; hotels, folk clubs and cafes in Melbourne and Warrnambool; Tarerer Music Festival Warrnambool; Aus Music Festival Warrnambool; and, house concerts in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Warrnambool.
…depth, poignant imagery and emotive musical staging in the style of legendries Leonard Cohen and James Taylor.
In Warrnambool, Witham is busy working with the band in the studio and live, and in June 2022 and 2023, as part of the Warrnambool Storytelling Festival, held two full house shows at Warrnambool’s premier performance venue The Lighthouse.
